If
you died today would anyone know where your important papers are?
Or who needs to be called? Does anyone know where your will is,
and if you have a safe deposit box, where's the key?
I ask because a good friend of mine died recently. She was 62 and
in good health. She lived alone in a condo she bought last September,
the very first home she ever owned. She had 4 grown children, and
grandchildren. She worked full time, and had a part time job as
well. She was extremely active in her church. I saw her socially
every week.
Yet, when she died, it took time to reach her children. The "in
case of emergency" number at her job was out of service. A
co-worker luckily contacted a friend who went to her home and they
called the State Police who eventually broke in and found her dead.
Her children could find no mention of a will; they've given up looking
for one. The State will now get 1/3 of her estate, then her family.
Please, if you don't have a will, get one. And make sure there is
a letter in your desk advising what to do in case of your unexpected
death. It can save your loved ones so much more pain.
In memory of Trish, I've made up magnets listing emergency contact
name, attorney name, executor name. I'm asking for a donation for
Trish's favorite charity, One Great Hour of Sharing, give as much
or as little as you like (but would like a minimum of $5.00 to cover
expenses)...all profits will go to her charity.
Please make checks payable to WUCC (Waitsfield United Church of
Christ) and mail to:

Please, send this to everyone you know, it could save loved ones
a lot of pain and frustration. -- Judi Buczkowski |
